On the fourth day after the stone-pelting incident on the police, men from Sayyedwada and Pardeshpura in Junnar continued to stay away from home. Politicians in Junnar called on the Superintendent of Police Sandip Karnik of the Pune rural police requesting him not to be stringent with those who surrender. The police had arrested 21 for hurling stones and injuring four policemen in the process.
At least 57 then fled the city. "I have requested the SP to spare the innocents," said MLA Vallabh Benke.
Asha Gupte, a local Shivsena leader, said nobody had seen the injured police officers nor do we know to which hospital they have been admitted. "We have requested the police to go easy on the miscreants, especially if they surrender." Gupte said an all-party delegation would meet Karnik today.
