Raipur: A Naxalite was killed today in a fierce gun-battle with security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said.
The exchange of fire took place in the restive area under the Basaguda police station limits this evening, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.
A joint team of state police's District Reserve Group (DRG) and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) -- an elite battalion of CRPF -- was sent to the interior of Basaguda based on a tip-off about movement of rebels in the region, located around 450 kms from the state capital, Elesela said.
While cordoning off a patch of forest to the south of Basaguda, a group of armed insurgents opened fire, the ASP said.
After the face-off, the security forces found the body of a Maoist in uniform, a gun and two pipe bombs.
