Thane: A group of suspected MNS activists allegedly vandalised a toll plaza here on the Sion-Panvel Highway in Navi Mumbai and injured one staff member, following which ten persons were arrested today, police said.

The incident took place last evening when a mob reached the controversial toll plaza at Kharghar and allegedly raided it while some activists manhandled the staff leaving one of them injured after he was hit with a bottle on the head, they said. The injured person is identified as Rakesh Singh.

PSI SN Naik of Kharghar police station who is probing the attack, said, offences under relevant sections of IPC have been registered against the mob and ten persons have been placed under arrest after the firm operating the toll plaza lodged an FIR. Those arrested will be produced before a local court later in the day, he said.

The attack was captured by CCTV cameras at the toll plaza. This is the second time that the newly-built toll plaza at Kharghar (operated by Sion Panvel Tollways Ltd) has been attacked by MNS, which had opposed it vehemently before it was cleared for operations by PWD in January this year.
