November 7, Monday
"The effects of habitat loss, barred owls, and climate on the long-term demography of the Northern Spotted Owl "Talk by Janice Reid. The northern spotted owl is an indicator of the health of the older forest ecosystem. The research on the northern spotted owl is important for public and private agencies and individuals interested in wood fiber extraction. Janice is interested in using technology to improve and enhance the data collection process of her current research. She is also interested in the effects of forest management activities on spotted owl site occupancy, survival and reproduction especially in regards to thinning activities in close proximity to spotted owl nesting sites.
Time: 5:30 p.m. Venue: BNHS Hornbill House. All are invited.

Butterfly Bounty at BNHS reserve, Goregaon
Butterflies are natural wonders and are indicators of the quality of our environment. Join us to visit an open-air butterfly garden near Mumbai, teeming with several species of stunning butterflies. Seek out beautifully patterned caterpillars and learn about the lifecycle of these winged jewels. One can spot Dark Blue Tiger, Brown King Crow, Blue Mormon, Blue Oakleaf, Common Baron, Great Orange Tip and many other beautiful species. Grade: Easy Reporting: CEC, Goregaon at 8 a.m. Grade: Easy (Short undulating walks) Charges: Rs. 500/- for members, Rs. 600/- for others (includes Breakfast and BNHS expertise only). How to get there: Take a 343 bus headed to Film City (not Santosh Nagar) from Goregaon (E) BEST depot. Alight at the last stop, near Reliance Media Works, walk straight, you will see a BNHS gate on right side after temple, enter the gate and walk for five minutes on a trail, you will reach BNHS center building. Driving directions:Take a right turn from Reliance Media Works, follow the road to reach BNHS-CEC main gate, and follow the sign to CEC. November 18, Friday
Book Release: Butterflies Of India by Isaac Kehimkar
The much awaited Butterflies of India is finally here. Join BNHS for the release of the book authored by the Butterflyman of India, and know the exciting journey of this book from him.
Book will be released by Mr.Bittu Sahgal, founder Editor, Sanctuary Asia.

November 20, Sunday
Bat and Bird Trail at Elephanta Island
Situated off the south-east shore of the city, Elephanta Island is a good birding location. During this season one can see Brown-headed Gull and Black-headed Gull flying alongside boats to the island. Other birds like the Gull-billed Tern, Lesser and Greater Sand Plover, Indian Grey Hornbill, Common Iora, Spot-billed Duck, Little Grebe, Osprey and White-bellied Sea Eagle can be spotted here. BNHS gives you a chance to learn about the only flying mammals, explore the caves with an expert in search of bat roosts. One can see Greater Asiatic Yellow House Bat and Leaf-nose Bat. Grade: Moderate (Initial 100 steps climb to reach the top, this could be a bit strenuous) Charges: Rs. 600/- for members and Rs. 700/- for others (Charges include boat ticket, entry ticket to Elephanta Island and BNHS expertise). Reporting: Hornbill House, opp. Lion Gate, Colaba at 7:30 a.m. Please carry adequate water, packed breakfast. Karnala Bird Sanctuary
Take an enjoyable walk through the moist deciduous base forest of Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It is the perfect time to see both resident and migrant birds like Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Black-naped Monarch, Sulphur-bellied Warbler, Common Chiffchaff, Small Sunbird, Nilgiri Flowerpecker, Rufous and Heart-spotted Woodpecker, White-bellied, Greater Racket-tailed and Bronzed Drongo, Crested Hawk-eagle, Crested Serpent-eagle, and Gold-fronted Leafbird.Grade: Easy (1-2 km undulating walk) Charges: Rs. 700/- for members and Rs. 800/- for others. Reporting: Bus will leave from Dadar T.T. (near Chandu Halwai) at 06:30 a.m., Chembur (near Diamond Garden) at 06:50 a.m., and Vashi (Vashi Jn) at 07:10 a.m. Registration': Call at Hornbill House 022- 22821811 , Mon-Fri 09:30 a.m. to 05:30 p.m. or e-mail at bnhs.programmes@gmail.com
