8 am, Saturday: The Murthy khandaan rushed around the Chamaraja Kalyana Mandir in Jayanagar 3rd Block to look over the final arrangements. Dressed in a magenta silk saree, Sudha Murthy, wife of Infosys Technologies chief mentor N R Narayan Murthy walked in at 10 am to check if everything was in place. Akshata and Rishi were already inside the mandap by that time. The occasion? Devara Samaradhane, where Akshata and Rishi, the bride and the bridegroom sat together on Saturday to invoke the blessings of God on their wedding nuptials.

Only close family and hardly a handful of friends were invited for the ceremony. There were just 600 guests. The morning took off in a completely hush-hush way with hardly any noise around the venue. Akshata looked resplendent in a pretty pink organza silk saree with her hair left open, blow-dried and set in curls, while Rishi walked in, handsome in a pristine white kurta pyjama. Narayan Murthy walked in only around 3.15 pm, when all the prayers, proceedings and lunch had got over.

Sudha Murthy protests the media intrusion at first; then gives in

Initially, the Murthys had planned to keep it completely quiet and away from any media attention. When Sudha later noticed journalists prowling on the mandap's gates, she gave in and invited them in for a taste of their simple lunch. But most of the media persons declined the very sweet lunch invite and were satisfied with the photographs.

According to astrologers, the last Sunday of this month will see a once-in-12 years alignment of the stars that is believed to be particularly auspicious especially for couples getting married. Lucky then that this is the day when Infosys chief Narayan Murthy's daughter and the Bangalore police commissioner's son will tie the knot.
