The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Which shade of lipstick would that be?
Going by Pritish Nandy's expression, we're wondering whether that thought crossed his mind at the launch of transgender activist (right) Laxmi's book, Red Lipstick at a Bandra bookstore over the weekend.

Pay more for a worthy cause
Till tomorrow, if you happen to drop in at Cafe Madras for a plate of piping hot idli or at Lower Parel's Paninaro for a pizza, it wouldn't hurt you to pay a little extra. No, not as a tip but as donation for Share Your Khaana campaign, launched by Cuddles Foundation.

The NGO, the only one in India to offer holistic nutritional support to underprivileged kids battling cancer, has roped in both restaurants to support its annual celebration of National Nutrition Week. The proceeds will go towards providing energy-boosting meals to patients in the city's government-run hospitals.

A different love story
It is a sad truth but homophobia is still rampant in India. Last week, there was news of two women in a same sex relationship who attempted suicide because their parents objected to them meeting.

A still from the series

It is thus, refreshing to see the number of people reaching out to tell simple and honest stories about these relationships. One such person is Roopa Rao, whose web series, The Other Love Story, follows the love story of two women Aadya and Aachal in Bengaluru.

The first episode of the crowdfunded series was out in August. At first glance, it appears like a sweet love story set in the 90s, a time when love letters and landlines played a vital role in budding romances. The next episode will be out on September 9.

If you're keen to check out another web series about the LGBT community, try All About Section 377, a web series that explores how the urban and rural population approached LGBT community.

Big B backs it
Amitabh Bachchan has triggered celluloid dreams of millions for decades. Now, he will be the reason behind one person achieving his/her goal every year. Thanks to the The Amitabh Bachchan Media Scholarship started by filmmaker Anand Pandit.

The scholarship, he informs, will be awarded to students of cinema and media after an exhaustive selection process. The initiative has got a thumbs up from Big B. "I hope this will push students of cinema to strive for excellence. It is a wonderful gesture by Anand bhai to nurture new talent. I am humbled by his gesture to institute this initiative," he said.

For the Sindhis
Last weekend, this diarist stumbled upon an interesting post by Sapna Bhavnani on Facebook. The celebrity hairstylist posted a photograph of herself standing on the Indian side of Wagah border.

As an ode to her community, Bhavnani has started documenting Sindh through stories of those who migrated to India from the region post the Partition. While she was excited about the project since "there has never been a visual documentation of our culture", she confessed that she'd need help of fellow Sindhis. And much to her delight, the post has received over 70 comments with many leads that she can follow up on.
