More cyber police stations will be set up in different Odisha towns to deal with high-tech crimes, Director General of Police R P Sharma said today. Four new cyber police stations would be set up at Bhubaneswar, Balesore, Sambalpur and Jeypore, he said.
The DGP said presently three cyber police stations were functioning in the state. Sharma said trained police personnel would be posted in the police station for quick investigation of cyber crimes. The cyber police station in Berhampur would be investigating into cyber crimes in 10 southern Odisha police districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkabnagiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Kandhamal. While a total 30 cyber cases were registered in these districts in 2014, the number increased to 168 in 2017. In 2015 and 2016, there were 47 and 168 such cases registered, respectively. In the first month of 2018, nine such cases were registered, official sources said.
