Several spots on busy Ganeshkhind road water-logged in rainy season

Ganeshkhind road, a busy road in the city that is also used for VVIP movement, is looked after by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) department. The road has a huge pipeline underground that carries water for the entire city. The road houses the Pune University, malls and multiplexes and the numerous commuters and pedestrians have a harrowing time on this road.

Yet, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) authorities are ignoring the water-logged spots at several places near E-Square multiplex, Reserve Bank of India's College of Agricultural Banking, Mafatlal bungalow and Dhotre road.

RBI College of Agricultural Banking
Problem: Just at the corner of the entrance gate of the institute, there are two storm water drains. But because of the uneven road water accumulates at the corner. Pedestrians walking down the road and also visitors to the institute have a tough time dodging the puddles. The Ganeshkhind road has a steep slope of nearly 25 degrees from the Pune University gate to Shivajinagar station. Because of the huge pipeline underground, not much repair work can be done.

PMC's promise: The stretch near RBI's college has a small drain line. Considering the uneven terrain, the water that gets accumulated near the institutes gate, should be channelled to the storm water drain line. The work will take a few days as the underground lines needs to be examined, said JNNURM's sub-engineer Avinash Gaikwad.

Mafatlal Bungalow corner, Dhotre road
Problem: The Mafatlal bungalow corner and the Dhotre road is badly inundated during monsoon. Model Colony residents who use the road daily, have been facing this problem for many years. Only 60m of the total road length has been covered with a storm water drain line, but rest of the road especially towards Ganeshkhind road does not have any outlet for accumulated water.u00a0

PMC's promise: A storm water drain line of 40m length should be laid from Mafatlal bungalow chowk towards Model Colony. This work is not feasible in the monsoon season. But once monsoon is over, the work will be started and the water that accumulates at the corner will be able to flow into the drain lines.
