One of the two militants believed to be in the house in Zunrishi (Chokibal) village of Kupwara district, 130 km from here, was killed in the operation launched by security forces on specific information, a senior police officer said.
"When the security forces cordoned off a house and challenged the hiding militants to surrender, they started indiscriminate firing at the surrounding security forces," he said, adding that two police personnel - an assistant sub-inspector and a constable - were injured.
"The cordon around the house where the militants are hiding was tightened and the injured policemen were shifted to hospital for treatment," he added.
He said exchange of firing and the security forces was going on as on 9.30 pm.
