Mexico comes playing

Tune in to pianists from Mexico along with a dance performance today

Someoneu00a0once said, if you start drilling a hole in India, you will land up in Mexico. That is how close the countries are geographically. But that's not what we know Mexico for. The Latin American country is known mostly for the hotbod Salma Hayek, and more recently, nachos and salsa which has become our national multiplex food.


Pianist James Demster will be playing music from the Mexican romantic era

So here is a chance to get to know more about Mexico and it's culture. Two of Mexico's famous pianists -- Fernando Garcia Torres and James Demster -- will be playing in the Capital to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between India and Mexico, 200 years of Mexico's independence and 100 years of the Mexican revolution, the first social revolution of the 20th century.

The programme will also feature a dance performance by choreographer and dancer Aditi Mangaldas.

Tripping around india
This is the first time the pianists are visiting India and both are quite excited. Plans are already on for trips across the country. "Agra, Aurangabad (for Ajanta and Ellora) and a little bit of Delhi are on our agenda," says Torres. And since they are in India till November 27, they do have lots of time in their hands.

Mexican tunes
Torres will be playing Mexican compositions from the romantic era. "I will play waltz by castro , Chopard to honour 200 years of Chopard's birth, mazurkaas and some preludes, he says.
Agustin Lara, well-known for his romantic compositions. "His music has a fine line between the popular and the classical. his compositions honour the beauty of women," says Demster. He will also be playing three preludes by Georges Gershwing.

While the pianists will be playing for an hour, dance by Aditi Mangaldas will be the other item on the menu.u00a0
The programme will include Indian dance compositions, both classical and contemporary, along with Mexican piano compositions from the nationalistic romanticism and expressionism.So get ready to go beyond your salsa and nachos.u00a0
