A 14-year-old girl, who was repeatedly raped by a man in her village, delivered a baby in an ambulance while she was on the way to the district hospital in Bareilly, on Thursday.

According to reports, a nurse at a community health centre allegedly refused to assist her in the delivery, after which she headed to the district hospital, but delivered on the way.

The victim was sexually abused on the pretext of marriage. The man left her after she conceived. The girl and her family put up a plea to abort the foetus, but it was declined as the pregnancy was in an advanced stage.

The victim's family alleged that the community health centre where the girl was initially taken refused delivery on learning she is a rape victim. Doctors, however, dismissed the allegations, and instead said that owing to lack of facilities, the victim was brought to the district hospital, and that both mother and newborn were under observation.
