A 50-year-old man, who used to run a public welfare trust, shot himself dead with his licensed pistol at his house here Wednesday, police said. A suicide note was recovered from his possession in which he blamed the government for his death.

Mahender Kumar Tokas was a former village head and was known as 'pradhan' in the Munirka Village. He was found dead around 8 a.m. Wednesday in his house at Munirka village in south Delhi with a bullet injury in his right temple.

Tokas's suicide note, written in Hindi, read: "It is very difficult to do noble work here as the government does not allow it. I want to do some more good works in my life but the government is restricting me."

Tokas is survived by his wife and two sons, who run a property business.

Hearing the gun shot, his neighbours and family members rushed inside the room to find him in a pool of blood.
