Inspired by the role of social media in the recent Lok Sabha polls, the Maharashtra unit of CPI has decided to launch a social media network linking party workers.
"We have organised a state-level social media workshop in Mumbai on July 25 for our social media workers," state CPI secretary Bhalchandra Kango said yesterday. Keeping in mind the influence of social media on youth, the party will undertake an extensive programme to reach "progressive thoughts" to youth through this medium, he said.
"In the last few years, has been a growing impact of social media. It has played a big role in social transformation," he said. Several party activists are active on various social media platforms, but the party leadership faced hurdles in propagating its work and ideology to the masses as there was no coordination among them, he said.
"The state CPI unit has started account on social media platforms like facebook, twitter and google plus," Kango said. "We have also started a channel on YouTube. The work of reaching masses through this media is in progress," he said. At the July 25 workshop, participants would be trained by experts on using social media to ensure that people get to know the party's policies and works initiated by it, he said.
