After Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) corporator from Pimpri-Chinchwad Seema Phuge was disqualified over the issue of submitting a bogus caste certificate, the city's youngest corporator Priya Gadade-Patil has to now forego her seat.

A local court yesterday disqualified Priya for allegedly forging her birth certificate. While delivering the verdict at the Small Causes Court, Judge M Sadique M Umar pronounced her election as null and void and also set aside her win. She has also been barred from contesting elections for a term of seven years from the date of order.

Gadade, who was elected as a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator from ward number 56 - Janata Wasahat - is said to have furnished a false birth certificate at the time of submitting her nomination papers for the Pune Municipal Corporation's polls, which were held in February last year.

Patil is said to have furnished a birth certificate showing her age as 21, the minimum age required to contest civic elections. But the petitioner in the case furnished evidences showing her correct age at the time of the election. She was 20 years 4 months and 20 days old.

In his order, Judge Umar also directed the election officer to hold fresh elections of the said ward to elect a new corporator. The election shall be completed on or before June 30, states the order.

Gadade was also arrested on June 23 last year in connection with the same forgery case.u00a0
