Taking cognisance of hordes of plane spotters thronging the recently opened Milan Rail over Bridge (ROB), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials have started installing view-cutters on it after security concerns were raised.
With families and motorists making a beeline for the bridge to click photographs of planes taking off from the airport, the presence of the tourists was getting a little too close for comfort.
MiD DAY in its article (âMilan overbridge poses a threat to airport security', May 28) reported on the issue, highlighting the lurking dangers and threat to security a few days after the overbridge was inaugurated on May 25.
When MiD DAY visited the bridge after its inauguration, it observed that the uninterrupted view of the city's airport and runway had drawn scores of curious visitors, who flocked to the bridge, parked their vehicles, and clicking photographs of the airport.
Others were seen taking videos of planes as they lifted off into the skies.
Soon after the report was published, police and traffic department officials visited the ROB on June 12, following which MMRDA officials were instructed to install the view barriers.
"After the police officials told us that we should install the view cutters, the decision to install the same was taken. The installation work of the view cutters has already started and in a month's time, it will be completed," said Dilip Kawatkar, MMRDA Joint Project Director.
Yesterday, when MiD DAY visited the location it was observed that the frame was fixed and the view cutter sheets were waiting to be installed.
MMRDA will be spending Rs 15 lakh on the installation of the vision barriers.u00a0
