At a little garage store located in a quiet bylane in Bandra, we had once picked up quirky home d ufffdcor items and gifts that made people go, "Wow! Where did you get that from?" Loose Ends was once Bandra's best-kept secret. But as it became popular, it was only obvious that it should move to a bigger space to accommodate all the madness.

Loose Ends has relocated to a bigger outlet. PICS/SAMEER MARKANDE

The new store isn't all that bigger but is packed with stuff that will elicit smiles and raised eyebrows. Apart from stocking products from brands like Happily Unmarried and Chumbak, they focus on the in-house label, which owner and designer Madhumita Goswami hopes will distinguish her store from those that stock funky goodies.

"You will find a hint of Indian-ness with a contemporary touch in my products," says Goswami. We loved the Akshar series that had started off with coasters at the old store and has expanded into trays (though the Hindi alphabet 'dha' doesn't quite stand for dumpling) for Rs 700, and cushion covers sporting the iconic Ambassador car, scooters and trucks (Rs 650). Stylised versions of pop culture icons like Elvis, Bob Marley and Che find their way onto cushion covers (Rs 650 just for the cover, not the cushion, mind you). Canvas frames featuring Rolling Stone magazine covers and scenes from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's are great but the Rs 750 to Rs 850 price range is steep.

Beatles singer John Lennon and the lyrics to his peace-loving anthem Imagine come printed on a lovely glass lamp (Rs 2,500) and a mug (Rs 295), but what we couldn't resist picking up were funky coasters depicting popular scenes from the Hindi cinema of yore (Rs 550 for a set of six). So, the next time you want to infuse spunk in your home, you know where to head.
