There's hope at long last for the teenager, who has managed to lose 30 kg now.

Three weeks after doctors at Philomena Hospital started his treatment, Salman has managed to lose 30 kg. He hopes to go back to school soon.

Salman started gaining weight when he was a 10-year-old. His troubles worsened when he started taking an herbal course from a quack in Basavanagudi.

Following this, the weight problem accelerated at an alarming rate.

It became so bad, that he had trouble walking around, and breathing. We took him to many hospitals but to no avail. He also refused to go to school because his classmates started calling him 'motu'.

"People think that he eats a lot, but that's not the fact. He eats two to three chapatis for breakfast, and a small quantity of rice for lunch.

"I want to be like other boys. I want to go back to school, and hope it will happen very soon," Salman said.

"My husband Adil Pasha (47), fractured his right hand in an accident two years ago, and is not in a position to earn money. We even spent the advance amount of Rs 15,000 of our rented house on Salman," says Rehana.

Dr J Anand, consultant,u00a0General and Laproscopic surgery, St Philomena's Hospital said, "It is understood that this is primary obesity, and needs surgery. The surgery will be done after reducing his weight by another 8-10 kg.
