Talking to MiD DAY, Usha Mangeshkar, younger sister of Lata, said, "We are all happy and it is a privilege for us to pay a tribute to our mother who brought us up after the demise of Baba. Lata, myself and youngest sister Meena (Khadikar) with Pt Hridaynath Mangeshkar will be participating in this event to remember our beloved mother." She added that their sister Asha would not be able to come as she would be abroad on that day.

Lata Mangeshkar is known to be strongly attached to the memory of her mother, Mai, oru00a0 Shuddhmati Mangeshkar.

When Lata was in the city to accept the Genesis Award on the occasion of Women's Day, she had said, "It was because of Mai that we managed to remain strong in difficult times. She inspired and guided me after my father's death. Mai nagged me to practise classical notes which my father had taught me. She was the strong driving force for me to pursue singing."

Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, Medical Director, Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, said the Warje hospital was Lataji's idea. The Mai Mangeshkar Hospital will be functional at the erstwhile Shri Om Multispeciality Hospital at Warje on the Mumbai-Bangalore highway.
