With the BJP-Shiv Sena combine emerging victorious in the Lok Sabha polls, several sweet shops in the city did brisk business
The Congress and its allies may be drowning their sorrows, but for the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, it was celebration time. Election results brought sweet tidings for someone else as well - owners of sweet shops across the city.

Yesterday saw a rise in sales of sweets, namkeens and other eatables at several shops. Political party workers and supporters rushed to the shops to buy laddoos, kaju katlis and pedas.

Shopkeepers used the opportunity to make a good amount of money. Besides sweets, snacks like samosas, khaman dhoklas and paneer dhoklas were in great demand. Namkeen and farsan were also moving fast.
Harish Mohite, owner of Trupti Sweets in Lower Parel, said "With the election results being announced, sales increased by almost 25 per cent. The highest sale was of laddoos. Apart from that, sweets like rasgulla and rasmalais were sold in abundance. Savouries like samosas and khaman dhoklas also saw high demand."
Bhartendu Singh, proprietor of Punjabi Chandu Halwai in Dadar, added, "Initially, the sale was slow, but it later picked up quickly. We sold laddoos in abundance; even kaju katli was sold in huge quantities."
