After more than a week of inaction, the Bundgarden police have finally arrested six people in connection with the assault on the chairman of Zeenat Co-operative Society, Saidvikar Ahmed Shah, at Koregaon Park on October 12.
Shah said he was relieved after the arrests of the six who assaulted him and his son.
However, the masterminds of the assault are still at large. The police are yet to nab Aarti Sutara, Shah's tenant and her friend Sahil Dave ufffdboth of whom allegedly hired contract killers to kill Shah.
ASI SL Dubal arrested Habib Babu Shaikh (38) of Kharadi, Sameer alais Gomya Salim Shaikh (28) of Yerwada, Nilesh Mukesh Malke (20) of Yerwada, Wasim Rashid Shaikh (25) of Yerwada, Amin Patel, Jakir Shaikh of Ahmednagar for attempting to kill Shah and causing a riot.
The six had assaulted Shah allegedly at the behest of a Sutara. Shah had allegedly been asked by Sutara, to transfer the ownership of a flat in her name.
When Shah refused to heed to the request, she allegedly hired contract killers to bump him off.
Shah, who had been admitted to Budhrani Hospital, has now been discharged. Three cases were registered against the culprits of which the last was registered on October 13.
"Aarti has fled and the search is still on," said Dubal. "She has applied for bail and the approval of the same is awaited."
Absconding
Her friend, Sahil Dave, is also absconding.
"Aarti and Sahil paid Habib and Sameer to kill Shah and his son," said Dubal. "Sameer was assigned to hire hiring a few youngsters to attack Shah. Aarti was pressuring Shah to issue her a certificate that she was a member of Zeenat Co-operative Society, but Shah refused to comply with the request."
