Giving health tips over the phone proved costly for a marketing executive of a drug company, though he may console himself with the fact that he escaped being forced to marry a woman he did not want.

Alam Pasha meets Umme Banu and her mother at a diabetes camp

Confined to the woman's home by her parents and ordered to give a legal name to their alleged relationship, the victim, Aslam Pasha (28), who works as a marketing executive for Gilinmark Drug Company, escaped by the skin of his teeth, but was later forced to cough up Rs 48,000 by the family if he wanted to be let alone.

It was when the woman's family began harassing him for even more money that the victim approached the police, seeking protection.

But the KG Halli police shooed him away, with the advice that he should settle the matter with the woman'su00a0 family amicably.

Later, Pasha is called to Banu's home, roughed up and told to marry her

Even when the police could not help him, Pasha, on the suggestion of his colleagues, approached the court and filed a complaint.

Taking cognisance of his complaint, the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the KG Halli police to investigate the matter in detail and submit the report.

In his complaint, Aslam Pasha said that he had been organising free diabetic check-up camps on behalf of companies at various locations for the past several months and giving tips to patients.

During one such camp held at KG Halli two months ago at Market Road, Shivajinagar, Pasha met Umme Banu (21) who had brought her mother for a check-up.

After a few trips to the camp, Banu exchanged mobile numbers with Pasha, stating that she might need to call him in emergency situations.

He manages to leave, but Banu's brother follows him and takes Rs 48,000u00a0 from him

Banu used to call Pasha now and then to get tips on diabetic problems. Soon Banu started chatting with Pasha frequently.

A few days ago, Aslam got an urgent call from Banu asking him to come to her home since her mother was serious.

Pasha rushed to her home. Before he realised it, her family, including the mother and siblings, locked Pasha inside a room with Banu and started creating a ruckus.

The family gathered the neighbours and alleged that Pasha was having a relationship with Banu and demanded he marry her on the spot to save their honour. They even beat Pasha black and blue and forced him to sign few blank papers.

"I pleaded my innocence but the family members locked me in the room stating that they would kill me if I do not marry her on the spot," Pasha said in his complaint.

In order to escape, Pasha sought time to convince his parents and was let off. Pasha rushed to the police station seeking protection but the police did not listen to him , instead giving him advice on how to handle these delicate matters. Irshad, brother of Banu, along with his associates followed Pasha and caught him while he was coming out of the police station.

Irshad gave him a proposition. He made Pasha go to a bank and withdraw Rs 48,000 and took it. The next day Irshad started calling Pasha, demanding he pay an additional Rs 1 lakh. Finally, on advice of friends, Pasha approached the court.
