Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, S Mallikarjun Khargeu00a0resigned from the post here today.
Kharge, who is also the Congress candidate from Gulbarga Lok Sabha reserved constituency, sent his resignation to the high command today morning. However, the high command has not accepted his resignation yet.
Congress leader and former deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah is expected to be the next leader of Opposition.
It isu00a0said that the high command itself hasu00a0come up with this strategy to accommodate Siddaramaiah as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.u00a0This is to ensure that Siddaramaiah campaigns for the party during the Lok Sabha election campaign and brings in the backward class vote, something he failed to do in the recent Assembly byelections. He is said to be nursing a grudge that the party has not given him a post befitting his stature. Also, by nominatingu00a0Kharge as the party candidate from Gulbarga, the party wants to ensure that the support base of the party among the Scheduled Castes is not disturbed.
