Eleven pilgrims were killed and nine others sustained serious injuries when their vehicle collided head-on with a lorry in Bidar district of neighbouring Karnataka state, police said on Tuesday.
The accident took place Monday night at Talmadgi bridge near Humnabad taluka of the district on National Highway No 9, a police officer from Humnabad said.
The deceased include drivers of both the vehicles besides some children and women who died on the spot. The condition of injured is serious and they are being treated at hospitals in Bidar and Hyderabad, police said.
The pilgrims were on their way to Medak district after visiting Tuljapur in Maharashtra state while the fruit-laden lorry was on its way towards Mumbai from Hyderabad.
