Banana Chatpati Tikka Tamater Ka Shorba Chilli 2 Vanilla at Kandivali pics/Soma Das
WHAT'S ON checked out Chilli 2 Vanilla and found the decor interesting, but the food lacking in variety and priced exorbitantly
Chilli 2 Vanilla is an apt name for a place that serves you everything from soups and tikkas to vanilla ice cream and sorbets. Launched with much fanfare, the owners claimed it brings you nothing short of a four-star experience. We decided to find out.
On a busy MG Road in Kandivali, a colourfully-lit signboard announces that we've arrived. Past the haze-filled lobby stands an attendant who asks us if we wish to head to the pub or the restaurant. And so, a glass elevator reminiscent of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series, carries you to the said floor.
Ambience: Subdued lighting, a calm atmosphere and the rippling of water ease you at once; perfect for a romantic evening or a family dinner.
Food and drinks: The menu serves Indian and Chinese food, but doesn't offer much in terms of variety. The ice cream section includes a variety of Gelatos and Sorbets. The pub, fine dining, ice cream and soon-to-open coffee shop are all under one roof.
We tried: The Tamater Ka Shorba (Rs 95) exuded with a deliciousu00a0 fragrant of spices. The steward recommended we try the C2V Punch (Rs 150) refreshing and healthy with a melange of fruits including strawberry, mango and apple. But the real surprise was the Banana Chatpati Tikka (Rs 160): Steamed bananas fried and served with chutney. A weird combination but delectable and spicy. After lapping up a measly portion of Paneer Malai Tikka for Rs 210 and Murgh Dum Biryani (six pieces of chicken for Rs 295 plus taxes), we felt, the restaurant should consider increasing their portions or revising prices.
Service: The waiters are gracious and well-informed, happy to answer your queries and recommend dishes.
