Not just objectsu00a0u00a0
The mission of this exhibition is to identify, protect and transmit the Italian cultural and natural patrimony to future generations. The eye of the authors represented in the over 120 works beckon the visitor to see afresh the 'World Heritage Sites' not merely as pictures but as an integral part of the Italian history. "Indeed, the collection was ideated with the purpose of spreading our priceless heritage across the world. I believe the beauty of the exhibition lies in the combination of very charming objects with the skill of artists who have clicked them. Good photography is creation, interpretation, choice of perspective and of light and the showcased works are a niche mixture of all these traits," says Roberto Toscano, Ambassador of Italy. The exhibition will also move to other parts of the world.

Power of lensu00a0
The exhibition follows a chronological track, starting the journey with the pictures of Gianni Berengo Gardin. Described as austere and elegant by critics, his photographs still preserve that lightness of the eye that characterises the immediacy of a shoot. The cultural landscape of Cinque Terre has been shown in black and white by an almost expressionist Ferdinando Scianna. On the other hand, the images of Gabriele Basilico showcase the search for a new world image. Yet another doyen of black-and-white pictures, Giuseppe Leone has dedicated his work to his land Sicily, creating a rich and fantasy-filled vision of it.

Old but new
This vision of heritage steeped in everyday tedium is different from that which Mimmo Jodice shows us of his city Naples and of the archaeological ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum in which the call of the past and its charm appear strongly underlined. The lure of the past is present, albeit with a different austerity, in the pictures of Luciano Romano too. The current photographs of Vittore Fossati, William Guerrieri, Luca Campigotto, three of the interpreters offering interesting visions of the architectural heritage are contemporary. Whereas, the fascination for places is strong enough.
