Monsoons may have brought relief from Delhi's scorching heat, but on the flipside temperatures are rising with the onset of various diseases.

Most hospitals are witnessing a sudden rise in number of patients complaining of problems like gastroenteritis, typhoid, malaria, jaundice etc. Not only kids, even adults are at risk with the prevalence of water-borne diseases in the city.

At Fortis Vasant Kunj, hospital sources say they are treating around 3-4 cases of gastroenteritis and one case of jaundice among adults every day. With the start of monsoon, paediatric cases have also witnessed an upsurge. Kids are suffering from viral fever with 5-10 cases per day; typhoid and malaria withu00a0 one case every day.
Dr. Sangeeta Subudhi, Consultant, Paediatrics, Fortis Vasant Kunj said: "With kids, you should always be more careful because they drink water which could be impure. People should have a cautious approach towards maintaining health and hygiene because infections in monsoon, especially in case of water-borne diseases, spread easily."
"At this time of the year, you can find contaminated water all around. Cases of water-borne diseases are reported throughout the year. But during rains, people are more prone to these diseases," said Dr. Sandeep Buddhiraja, Head of Department, Internal Medicine, Max Healthcare Saket.
