Hugh Jackman wanted to quit X-Men

Australian actor Hugh Jackman considered quitting the hit 'X-Men' franchise after the third film as he felt that his character in the superhero flick had become too "soft."

The 40-year-old actor, who reprises his role as the mutant superhero Wolverine, in the 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' for the fourth time, said that he considered stepping down from the role amid concerns over his character's development, Contactmusic reported.

"One thing we never got with Wolverine is that berserker rage which is talked about in the comic books. It felt like Wolverine had got a little soft by X-Men 3. He's tough, he's gruff, he's not politically correct," said the actor who recently got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

But Jackman decided to act in the latest film because it portrays Wolverine as a "flawed character." "There has to be complexity to this character. He's very tough but there's a lot of painful history in his life that you find out about. It's not pretty. He's a flawed character. That's what I like about it, that's why I'm doing it for the fourth time or else I wouldn't," Jackman said. 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' is slated to hit theatres on May 1.
