Though Infosys' chief mentor had worn the Mysore Peta during the wedding, he was dressed in a suit for the reception. His son, on the other hand, was culturally complete wearing a Mysore Peta (headgear), silk dhoti and kurta. In fact, he was dressed as bridegrooms from Mysore do. With the result that some of the invitees mistook Rohan for the groom.
An embarrassed Rohan told MiD DAY, "They asked me if I was the groom. Then I joined my father who introduced me to the visitors."
Asked about his marriage plans, he blushed, saying: "I'm 26. Not really in a hurry." A PhD holder from Harvard, Rohan is now doing his MBA in the US.

Comfortable
A source close to the Murthy family said though he could have worn a blazer or a sherwani, he preferred to go with the traditional Mysore style, with mom Sudha Murthy supporting the idea.
"I am not at all uncomfortable in this dress as I used to wear a dhoti while performing pooja at home," said Rohan. "My uncle taught me how to drape the dhoti."
However, the Mysore peta was a new experience. "This is the first time I am wearing this headgear," he said.
"I don't know where it came from. My mother just gave it to me and asked me to wear it." Rohan's discomfort was obvious he frequently removed the peta while talking to guests.

TV journalist Barkha Datt, who fell into a long conversation with him, was particularly curious about his outfit.
She was overheard asking whether he would wear the same outfit at his wedding.
"It all depends on the situation," he said. "However, I believe there should no problem with the dress as it goes well with tradition."

When asked why he did not suggest the Mysore dress idea to his brother-in-law, Rohan said, "It was his choice to wear the suit."
Bridegroom Rishi Sunak wore the traditional silk dhoti and kurta during the wedding ceremony and sported a North Indian pagdi as the headgear.
Proud mom
Meanwhile, Sudha Murthy was truly a proud mom. "We should not forget our roots even when our heads are high in the clouds. I am happy that my son, who is studying in the US, is comfortable in the outfit that is truly Indian," she said.
