A gunfight started on Thursday evening between the security forces and guerrillas in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said


Srinagar: A gunfight started on Thursday evening between the security forces and guerrillas in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.

"A gunfight has started between security forces and holed-up militants in Kanthpora (Sogam) village of Kupwara district this evening," a senior police officer told IANS here.

He said that security forces laid a cordon around the village after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there, but came under fire from the hiding militants, triggering the gun battle which is now going on (as of 9.30 p.m.).

Reports also said two guerrillas are holed up inside the mosque in the village.
