At a time when technology is pervading every aspect of life, the state transport department is also hoping to go the tech-savvy way. Officials have launched a new internal website, which will maintain all records, track important details and also maintain a comparative analysis of the work by all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in the state.

Currently, the department has begun trial runs of the website - web.rto.com where all data pertaining to the Pune, Kolhapur and Nashik is being fed into the system. Data related to all sections such as revenue, flying squads, border check-post work, new registration, issuance of learning licences and permit department will be uploaded on the website. Officials said that if the trial went off successfully, then the project would be launched within a month's time across all RTOs in the state.

The man behind the idea Pune Deputy Regional Transport Officer Anil Valiv said, "I have been working and gathering all the information for the last two years and have come up with the site. This website will certainly reduce our workload." Speaking about the benefits of the system, he added, "The best aspect of the system is that we will be able to easily track and monitor all work across different RTOs in the state. Month-wise data will be uploaded by the fifth of each month, which will be available to all.

This way, we can also find out which office is performing well, as well as compare and analyse data." Valiv further added that the new website will also ensure efficiency and accuracy. An official from the Pune RTO said, "It is really hard to maintain all the documents , as thousands of people submit their papers. Also, we cannot maintain so many papers, as they often get lost. Developing such a website will be really helpful and we are looking forward to it."
