How do you perceive God? Is he the larger-than-life, beard-sporting, benevolent force, strong enough to carry troubles of the cosmos on his shoulders? For theatre writer-director Prriya Ary., he is just a simple guy who has to deal with tangled affairs of the heart. He might even look like Shekhar Suman.

In a new Bollywood-style musical, Ary., brings actor Shekhar Suman on board to play God. There is nothing too complex about Da Dating Truths. "Girl meets boy, girl dumps boy. Riddled with sorrow, she goes shopping for joy," jokes Ary. "We are all in this eternal search for Mr Right, hardly realising that no one is perfect until you fall in love with them."

Suman plays Cupid or the God of love, with mortal desires. He falls in love with his stunning assistant played by television actress Amita Chandekar. A parallel story unravels on earth where a girl (Vaibhavi Uppadhyay) is searching for Prince Charming (Gaurav Chopraa), tripping on five not-so-charming guys enroute. She turns to him each time she realises that the supposedly perfect hunks were just an illusion. What makes the musical trademark Bollywood is its script laced with twelve dance sequences choreographed by Longinus Fernandes of Slumdog Millionaire fame. Original music scores set by KC Loy and Aashish Reggo get the cast dancing to Jazz, a Salsa number, an item song, and even a Qawwali.

Television actor Gaurav Chopraa, says it's the feel-good factor and hilarious circumstances that the audience will love. Suman calls it "every girl's story". No serious theatre here, just Bollywood-style entertainement on a different platform.
