Grief-struck? DCP (South) Sonia Narang console the family that sat
grieving on the main road. Pic/Bindiya Carmeline ThomasAccording to a policeman present at the crime scene, around 10 men stopped the two youthu00a0-- Deva and Kala Bheema, and his pillon rider, at 10.45 pm. The group then proceeded to beat the two up, before stabbing and bludgeoning them to death.
Vasanthamma, Deva's mother, said, "He had called a few hours ago to say he wouldn't be coming home because he had gotten into a fight. He had made some enemies in this area who wanted to hurt him."
She added, "Aneef and Sena are two boys who he has been fighting with for the last year. I suspect they are the ones who are responsible for his death."
Vasanthamma added, "He was just a call centre employee. His child now has no father. He didn't deserve this."
In a twist of irony, while Deva had warned his mother that the police might be knocking at her doors asking for her son's whereabouts, cops showed up only to break the bad news to her.
Both men were no strangers to rowdism. They had on several occasions been arrested and released on various charges including sexual harassment.
Though the incident occurred at 10.45 pm, authorities got there only after mid night after bystanders who saw the bodies called the Tilak Nagar police station.
From there, the case was transferred to J P Nagar jurisdiction. A senior police official from the J P Nagar Police Station said, "For years, Vasanthamma has been selling kerosene on the black market.
Now she has a small money lending businesses. This could be one reason why there has been so much bad blood in this slum."
The incident bought many top officials to the crime scene who spent time trying to console the family that sat grieving on the main road. DCP (South) Sonia Narang, said, "The two men have been killed using sharp weapons. It is still uncertain how many were involved in this attack. But this was an isolated event."
JCP (Crime) Alok Kumar, said, "This was not a gang war. None of these men are notorious thugs. We now know that one of the victims was a criminal himself."
