Five persons were run over by the New Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi here early on Tuesday when they were crossing the track, triggering protests by locals who surrounded the train.
The mishap took place at 7:30 am when the five started crossing the track as soon a goods train passed the area and did not notice the approaching train.
"Due to the impact, the engine of the train failed and the locomotive came to a halt," CPRO, Northern Railways, Anant Swaroop said.
Soon after the incident, locals protesting against the incident surrounded the train, he said, adding that there were no reports of violence. The identity of the victims is yet to be ascertained. An engine has been sent from Delhi to facilitate the train's onward movement.
