Fire Brigade officials were surprised to see not a single fire extinguisher fitted inside a shoe manufacturing company located in the MIDC Pimpri area after two barrels of chemicals in the company caught fire on late Thursday night.
u00a0Five fire tenders were required to douse the fire. Alsou00a0around 15 jawans of the State Fire Training Centre (SFTC) including Group Commando Rahul Sawant, Kailas Tamore, Kiran Kale, Navnath Zarte, Haresh Bhojane, Sandeep Mahale, Anil Mane rushed to Waghmare Shoe Private Ltd company, after they received the call at around 8.10 pm on Thursday in Yashwant Nagar.
Sawant said, "It took us one hour and fifteen minutes to douse the fire, which had spread over an area of about 1500 square feet. The two barrels containing chemicals and rubber material used in the manufacturing of shoes had mainly caught fire."
u00a0"At around 10.10 pm, a call was received from the company when the fire broke out again. Finally at around 10.55 pm the fire was entirely brought under control, however the cooling process took much more time," he added.
u00a0Sources from the Fire Brigade said, "There was no fire-fighting equipment or extinguishers fitted in the company. We have sent a report regarding this and also a notice to the company." He added that certain safety norms needed to be followed by all companies.
