A fire that broke out in the evening at Rajnavali Naka near Kalyan-Bhiwandi by-pass on Nashik highway road due to a suspected cylinder blast left eleven
persons injured on Tuesday.
The injured were initially brought to Thane Civil hospital for treatment.
Eight grievously hurt patients were shifted from Indira Gandhi Hospital in Bhiwandi to BMC-run Sion Hospital and Masina Hospital in Byculla later in the evening. One woman and seven men have suffered from severe burn injuries ranging between 25 and 55 percent.
Three water tankers from Bhiwandi fire brigade, one from Kalyan fire brigade and three private water tankers were rushed to the spot.
According to fire officials, the blaze broke out at 5:45 pm in the scrap godown, which is located in a lane.
"The fire took place at 5:45 pm Tuesday. 11 people from the godown have suffered burn injuries. The fire is suspected to be due to a cylinder blast within the godown." said a fire official from Kalyan fire brigade.
The officers also added that the place is illegally constructed and debris lying on the road led to the conflagration.
Dr Suleiman Merchant, Dean at Sion hospital, said, "Seven patients with burn injuries have been admitted to Sion hospital from Bhiwandi."u00a0
