Acting on a call received at the control room around 3.30 am, the police reached Shetty's flat. The Kothrud police said eight men and about five women, some of whom were actresses seen on Marathi televison, allegedly created a hullabaloo at the party that went on till the wee hours. The actresses were lucky to be let off, as women constables were not available to arrest them.

A team lead by Assistant Police Inspector Sadique Deshmukh checked the premises and found three men entering a flat from where the loud music was emitting. API Deshmukh said the eight were taken into custody under the Bombay Police Act section 112 and 117. Highly placed sources said that when the police interrupted the party none of the men or women was in a condition to even stand owing to crapulence.u00a0

In the meantime, the whisper doing the rounds is that the party organiser himself sought help from the police after one of the revellers misbehaved with a popular actress. "Despite our appeals no one has come forward to lodge a complaint for alleged misbehavior," said Deshmukh.

The actress was unavailable for comment as repeated calls to her mobile number went unanswered. The arrested are Abhishek Shetty (27) of Erandawane, Suhrud Godbole (26) of Deccan, Saurabh Deshmukh (28) of Vimannagar, Aastad Kale (26) of Sukrawar Peth, Kaustubh Deshpande (26) of Kothrud, Amey Gosavi ( 27) of Kothrud, Ajinkya Khambekar (30) of Deccan, Sidhdharth Benninger (29) of Deccan.

Noted Marathi actor and writer Shrirang Godbole, father of Suhrud, said: "All these people were having a party and one of them called the police control sensing some problem. They were held by the police owing to some misunderstanding. We have put forward our say in the court."

The arrested eight were produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class V N Girwalkar seeking three days judicial custody. After they were remanded in judicial custody, the accused applied for bail through lawyer R G Sonawane, and the court granted them bail on furnishing personal bond of Rs 3,000 each. To avoid the media glare three to four from the group allegedly jumped from the high walls of court to board rickshaws.
