On Monday, the commissioner had organised a press conference to announce that the government is accepting proposals for self-financed schools till July 31. However, when this reporter informed him that the recruitment of teachers at PMC schools has been pending with the government, he seemed clueless about the issue.
"Has the PMC really sent a file to the state government?" inquired Choklingam, asking this reporter information about concerned officials at the civic body pursuing this matter. "I will look into this matter on priority. It is true that while the government is promoting self-financed English-medium schools, it is also important that the issue of recruiting teachers in PMC schools should be resolved at the earliest," added the education commissioner.
On Friday, mid-day had reported that while the English medium schools are getting good response, with another 3000 students admitted in PMC schools, it is struggling to maintain the quality of education as the shortage of teachers has increased from 40 to 100 (3,000 new students, but PMC waits for approval to recruit 100 teachers).
The civic body's education officer (primary) Shivaji Daundkar informed that the GR passed on June 2012 had banned the recruitment of teachers.
