BMC now have a new plan up their sleeve to lure their young students to the schools run by them. Walt Disney India will soon be adding colour and fun to some civic schools by painting their interiors with the iconic and beloved cartoon characters.
Plans may also materialise to screen legendary animated films for students between KG and Std IV, once a week, and connect them to lessons, though sources from Walt Disney India are yet to confirm the same.
This is the first time that the walls of the civic schools will sport bright paintings of the famous characters, to enliven the classroom atmosphere and boost the enthusiasm of students while they study. BMC officials are also hopeful that students will attend school more regularly, thanks to the presence of their favourite Disney friends.
Geeta More Patil, officer-in-charge of the Public Partnership Cell, said, "The Walt Disney group approached BMC officials in August and their proposal was accepted. They wanted to paint the walls of the BMC schools and also show students cartoon films once a week for from classes KG to Std IV. As of now, 18 schools have been identified. Colourful classrooms and film shows will definitely attract students to their schools. We hope that the attendance of these students will improve. At present, Ramabai School no 3 and Cheetah Camp School are being painted."

Confirming development, Mohan Adtani, additional municipal commissioner for Education, said, "Yes, Walt Disney India came to us with the proposal, which is part of their corporate social responsibility. They wish to paint our schools. They will be painting 15-20 schools. The paintings will also be related to education. I think they claimed they would show cartoon films, but that too will be related to education."
A source close to Walt Disney India said, "As a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility project we are undertaking a beautification project of BMC schools to make them look better. Right now we have taken up five schools in Mumbai to paint and we will gradually increase the number. It is being done by our employees who are involved in this project."
