US Secretary of State John Kerry asked this before starting his lecture at IIT-D even as heavy monsoon brought the capital to a standstill


New Delhi: US Secretary of State John Kerry's tryst with heavy rains continued as he reached late for his lecture at IIT-Delhi yesterday.

"Did you all come in boats? I don't know if you came in boats or amphibious vehicle of some kind," Kerry asked, provoking laughter. There was a foot deep flooding on the road in front of IIT-Delhi. He also had to postpone his scheduled trip to three religious sites in the capital.

Traffic helpline gets 100 calls
People were stranded on roads as heavy rains continue to lash the city with the traffic helpline receiving more than 100 calls of snarls and waterlogging.

The heavy rains made the weather pleasant with the minimum temperature settling 26 degree Celsius, one notch below the season's average.

Heavy rains yesterday inundated not just roads and low-lying residential areas in Hyderabad but also hospitals and railway stations in the heart of the city. The OPD block and some rooms of ESI Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Khairatabad railway station and even the busy Raj Bhavan Road were hit heavily by the incessant monsoons.
