The CEO of Dehu Cantonment Board (DCB) Rajendra Pawar and junior engineer Shashikant Shinde, who were arrested by the CBI for accepting bribe from a contractor, were produced before the Shivaji Nagar court yesterday.
Ejaz Khan, the prosecutor pleaded the court to grant CBI their custody as the investigating agency wanted to interrogate them to get further details.
Thus, the court remanded Pawar and Shinde to CBI custody till February 6.
Pawar and Shinde were arrested by the CBI on charges of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.23 lakh from a Pimpri-based civil contractor.
The case so farDCB had awarded a contract of Rs 55 lakh to Ramesh Chugh, a contractor, for laying water pipelines at Dehu Road in 2008-2009. Chugh who had completed the first phase of work had submitted a bill of Rs 20.56 lakh to Pawar.
He, then, sought a clearance of Rs 4.92 lakh for remaining work when Pawar allegedly demanded Rs 1.25 lakh from him.
Hence, Chugh filed a complaint with the anti-corruption bureau of CBI, which laid a trap and arrested Pawar and Shinde as they accepted the bribeu00a0 amount.
