Criminals beware. The State CID is soon coming up with an online system that will help in tracking the movement of anti-state elements in real time. Thus, the information about the criminals and terrorists will just be a click away for the intelligence officials.

The State CID is part of a Rs 2,000-crore national mission called Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) that willu00a0 connect crime records from 14,000 police stations in the country and will linked it to au00a0 common network, which will accessible to all the police officers.

Under this project, the police officers would be given training as well as basic computer network connections for accessing information on criminal records and terrorist movements. About 1,000-odd police stations in Maharashtra will be linked to CCTNS.

While State CID is the enforcing agency for CCTNS project, Meera Borwankar, IG, CID, will be nodal officer on behalf of Maharashtra.

Borwankar told MiD DAY that CCTNS is in its primary stage of implementation. Besides, a data centre is being developed in Mumbai and will have a back up office in Pune.

She added, "Currently we are developing the infrastructure for the project. The actual training will start only after theu00a0 software is ready. Moreover, it will take about three years for the project to be fully operational."
