The Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail application of human rights activist Binayak Sen, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sedition and links with Maoists.
A division bench of Justice TP Sharma and Justice RL Jhanwar pronounced the judgment in a jam-packed courtroom here, some 110 km from state capital Raipur.
The court had on Wednesday reserved its orders on Sen's plea even as the state government opposed it on grounds of his association with the Maoists.
Sen is at present lodged in a central jail in Raipur after he was sentenced by a trial court in Raipur on December 24 for sedition and links with Maoist ideologue Narayan Sanyal and Kolkata-based businessman Piyush Guha, both of whom have also been sentenced to life.
