MDMK leader Vaiko, charged with sedition for a speech warning of a 'bloodbath' in Tamil Nadu if anything happened to LTTE chief V Prabhakaran, on Friday said the case was 'politically motivated' and he was ready to face arrest.
"MDMK is second to none in protecting the country's unity and sovereignty and I don't need a certificate from Karunanidhi government on this matter," he told reporters at his residence where scores of his supporters had converged, apprehending his arrest. "I am not bothered about the arrest," Vaiko said.
City police last night had filed an FIR under different sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Amendment Act against Vaiko for allegedly speaking in support of the banned LTTE and against the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
Repeating his earlier remarks warning of a 'bloodbath' in Tamil Nadu if 'something' happened to Prabhakaran, Vaiko said he did so only "with good intention and good faith and as a true loyal citizen of India".
Vaiko also took exception to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi comparing the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to Greek conqueror Alexander the Great, saying it amounted to 'betrayal' of Tamils.
"By comparing Rajapakse to Alexander, Karunanidhi has betrayed Tamils and the comparison is shameful as the Lankan President is accused of ordering aerial bombing in Tamil areas in the island nation," Vaiko said.
Karunanidhi, while addressing a rally here last evening, had referred to a historical incident involving Alexander and an Indian ruler, Porus, who despite being defeated by Alexander, was treated with honour and dignity upon his request to "be treated like a king".
