A senior police officer said that the accused driver, identified as Kirti Singh, was caught red- handed when he broke the lock of the car belonging to Vinod Sharma, a corporate affairs ministry official. Police said they registered a case in this respect on September 17.
"Though we have not found Kirti's antecedents but we are sure this is not his first crime. He seems to possess some expertise in breaking a car's lock. He first removed the plastic attached to the windscreen and then with the help of a wooden scale he broke the car's lock. He then got inside but was caught by Sharma. Police were informed and he was handed over to us. We registered a case in this regard on the basis of complaint by Vinod Sharma," said the police officer, requesting anonymity.
The officer said that Sharma parks his car between gate number 2 and 3 inside Shastri Bhavan premises. According to Sharma, Kirti was removing his car's stereo when he reached there. He called the CISF personnel who apprehended the accused.
"Kirti Singh is the driver of Sangeet Verma who is economic adviser of ministry of woman and child development. We are checking his previous records and we are sure that he has some criminal antecedents," said the police officer.
