Domestic passenger car sales recorded 25.59 per cent increase at 1,20669 units in August from 96,082 units in the same month last year.
According to the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Tuesday, motorcycle sales in the country during the month was up 25.94 per cent at 6,11173 units from 4,85270 units in the corresponding month a year ago.
The total two-wheeler sales in August surged by 25.11 per cent to 7,76777 units compared to 6,20883 units in the same period last year.
The sale of commercial vehicles also reported an increase for the second consecutive month and grew by 18.48 per cent in August to 40,624 units from 34,289 units in the year-ago period, SIAM said.

Commercial vehicles sales have shown a negative trend for almost a year before bouncing back in July. The total sales of all vehicles across categories also rose by 24.33 per cent to 10,08702 units in August this year against 8,11341 units in the same month last year, it added.
