Rarely have we witnessed such excitement in the city, about the arrival of a new hotel in Mumbai, as we have for the St Regis chain, which announced its arrival with a classy Mumbai Mary toast to the city, its spin on the legend, which arrived in a personally engraved handsome box
Harish Salve and Kanika Kapoor
And if its sources are to be believed the luxury chain has already bagged one of the most high powered events in the city later this month - the launch of a book written by barrister Harish Salve's daughter Sakshi Salve titled The Big Fat Indian Wedding (Rupa).
"Given the standing that India's former Solicitor General and one of its India's leading lawyers - in the areas of constitutional, commercial and taxation laws - commands amongst the high and mighty this is certainly going to be exactly the kind of affair that will best showcase the hotel, with one of the best guest lists in town," said a hotel insider.
And just in case the evening gets too weighed down with gravitas the merry trio comprising Delhi-Mumbai wit and swag, namely Cyrus Broacha, Suhel Seth and Kunal Vijayakar will be conducting a no holds barred discussion on the Big fat Indian Wedding, and word's out, that given that Seth and Vijayakar are both merry bachelors, the subject will be in for a lot of drubbing. And oh yes, Kanika Kapoor will be singing too. That's called entering with a bang.
Mr Marine and his drive
"And for our money, the wriest comment on the whole brouhaha over the changing of road names, was from the lips of our former colleague Sidharth Bhatia.
Sidharth Bhatia and Siddharth Varadarajan
"Though the official name is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, everyone calls it Marine Drive, its old colonial name," said Bhatia on a social networking site, alluding to the latest Capital caper, before neatly delivering the punch line "after the well known British administrator Mr Marine."
Bhatia, who has along with namesake Siddharth Varadarajan, launched the webzine The wire (described on its website as 'a joint venture in the public sphere between journalists, readers and a concerned citizenry'), has himself recently moved in to an apartment adjunct to Mr Drive's memorial from (tender loving) Khar, after a childhood spent in the hood. Time to reacquaint himself with Mr Gate of Churchgate and Mr Causeway of Colaba now.

Sapna's latest meme
Our favourite performance artist, stylist (Mad O Wot?) Sapna Moti Bhavnani whose striking memes of cryptic words, and haunting images have featured on this page before, has done it again.

'Feminism is not about long hair or short hair, it's not about growing out your arm pit hair or pubic hair, it's not about the absence or presence of red lipstick, it's not about the choice of designer or non designer combat boots or about the choice to change your last name,' she wrote recently.
'Feminism is the ability to comfortably sink into your own skin. Regardless of gender'. Expectedly these simple and brave words and the accompanying image were shared many times over on the net. "The post was just a message to break myths that feminism has anything to do with a look," she said when we spoke to her.
"A particular look in fact, short hair, modern looking, usually a lesbian. And this is completely untrue," said the feisty human canvas, covered in delicate tattoos. "We as humans judge too much. I felt it important to state that looks are deceiving."
Queenie, Rishi's capital celebrations
