Flight on which cops were supposed to take accused Shivraj Puri to Kolkata was cancelled
Gurgaon police's move to take multi-crore Citibank fraud accused Shivraj Puri to Kolkata for further investigation ran into a hurdle on Monday due to bad weather.
According to highly placed sources, Gurgaon police was planning to take Puri to Kolkata by air but at the last minute the flight got cancelled due to fog and low visibility at Delhi airport.
"We reached Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport with Shivraj Puri on Monday. After waiting for a few hours, we got to know that the flight has been cancelled due to bad weather. We cannot take him by train as his police remand is about to end," said a senior police officer who is a part of the investigation team.
Police said that Puri was born and brought up in Kolkata and has a home there. The officials were hoping to find some crucial evidence there related to the fraud case. "Now getting his custody again is very unlikely," the officer added.
Puri's 12-days remand period will end today and police will have to produce him in court. "At the most, we can now get his custody for two more days. If possible we will again try to take him to Kolkata by air," he said.
After Sanjeev Kapoor, the managing director of Helion Advisors, more than 40 investors have approached Gurgaon Police in this multi crore fraud. The officer said all these complaints could be clubbed into the single FIR.
