Bengaluru: The BJP government in Karnataka headed by B S Yeddyurappa on Monday proved its majority, sailing through the confidence motion smoothly in the truncated Assembly. A day after disqualifying 14 more rebel MLAs in a parting shot on the trust vote eve, paving the way for an easy run for the BJP, Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar resigned soon after BSY won the floor test.
With the BJP comfortably placed in the numbers game after the disqualification of 17 rebel MLAs, Congress and JD(S) did not press for division. The next focus of the Yeddyurappa government is on cabinet expansion, likely to be completed by this weekend, senior BJP leaders said.
The BJP would also have to finalise its nominee for the post of the Assembly Speaker. The appointment of new Speaker will be decided in a day or two, said BJP leader Suresh Kumar. According to BJP sources, Yeddyurappa is likely to visit Delhi soon and hold discussions with the party leadership in this regard. With a large number of aspirants, the CM has to walk a tight rope while deciding on the cabinet expansion.
