Shortly after MiD DAY reported on how the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) top bosses were showing no regard whatsoever to the ban on tinted car windows and had been fearlessly moving around the city in their official vehicles, the civic body has finally decided to play by the rules.
Around 90-plus cars in the corporation have tinted glasses, out of which the sun-control film has been removed from close to 60 of these vehicles till yesterday. According to a source in the BMC, the remaining 30 cars are in the process of having the film removed.

According to sources at the BMC, after MiD DAY reported on the matter, Mayor Sunil Prabhu called the department responsible for maintenance of the civic body's vehicles and asked that the film be removed from the windows of his car. BMC Commissioner Sitaram Kunte and Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar's cars were also clicked minus tinted glasses.
The drive against tinted car glasses has been going on in full swing and according to sources in the traffic police department, each day on average, their personnel have been removing sun control films from around 2,500 cars. Around 20,000 drivers have been penalised from October 11 till date and close to Rs10 lakh has been collected in way of fines in 10 days.u00a0
Chief Engineer of Solid Waste Management Shekhar Chitale, under whose jurisdiction the maintenance of the vehicles of the Corporation falls, said, "Work is in progress to remove the tinted glasses from the remaining 30 cars and should be completed in a week."
Meanwhile, the Mayor said that he wanted to follow the same rules that apply for everyone. "The film on the windows of my car has been removed on request. I asked for it to be done because what rules apply to all the citizens, applies to me as well," he said.u00a0
