Autorickshaw and taxi rides are going to create even bigger holes in your wallets from now on.
After a special meeting with the representatives of unions and PMA Hakim today, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has decided to hike autorickshaw and taxi fares.
According to the new rates, the minimum fare for autorickshaws will be Rs 15 for 1.5km in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane and Rs 19 for taxis.

Every additional kilometre in an auto will cost Rs 10. Correspondingly, the rate for taxis is yet to be confirmed. The new rates will come into effect on October 11.
Sharad Rao, general secretary of the Mumbai Rickshawmen's Union, is delighted with the news. "I am very happy that the Hakim formula has helped the 15 lakh rickshaw drivers in the Maharashtra State. The minimum increase is a welcome change as the cost of living index has gone up. After 20 years, we have got justice."
